PVS cuts road kilometres by 77% by switching to inland waterway transport

12.10.2026

POM Limburg and Multimodaal.Vlaanderen supported the search for an alternative transport route

PVS, a Hasselt-based producer of professional audio and audiovisual solutions, is switching to inland waterway transport. The company aims to gain greater control over its logistics operations. For years, PVS containers were transported directly by truck from the Port of Antwerp to Hasselt. Traffic congestion, unpredictable arrival times and scheduling difficulties made transport inefficient. Multimodaal.Vlaanderen and POM Limburg worked with the Hasselt-based company to explore how to organise its flow of goods more efficiently and sustainably.

The direct connection between Antwerp and Hasselt involved approximately 210 km by road for a round trip between the port and PVS. As a result, PVS was heavily dependent on road transport, making daily planning difficult.

‘For us, the switch to multimodal transport is not just about reducing truck kilometres. Greater predictability simplifies our planning, gives us more control over our daily operations and results in significant cost savings’, says Marin Rooijakkers, Internal Supply Chain Manager at PVS.

A smarter route via Genk
With the support of Multimodaal.Vlaanderen and POM Limburg, PVS began looking for an alternative to transporting its containers by road. The solution combines inland waterway transport with a short road journey via the Port of Limburg inland terminal in Genk. This change reduces the road journey from 210 kilometres to 48 kilometres and increases the reliability of the logistics chain.

With the new transport solution, deliveries are more predictable and the scheduling of unloading teams is more efficient. This also leads to smoother warehouse operations, less time lost and greater operational efficiency.

21.8 tonnes less CO₂
In addition to the operational benefits, the switch to inland waterway transport also delivers clear environmental gains. Each year, PVS saves approximately 21.8 tonnes of CO₂ and avoids 24,000 truck kilometres on busy Flemish roads.
