ABN Cleanroom Technology Develops Mobile Laboratory for Einstein Telescope
BILZEN – ABN Cleanroom Technology and Poels Labs have built a mobile laboratory that enables local and international companies to clean and test components for the Einstein Telescope. This innovative project, supported by the ET Innovation Fund of POM Limburg and the provincial government, opens international doors and gives a strong boost to innovation in the region.
“The Einstein Telescope offers Limburg the opportunity to distinguish itself internationally as a high-tech region. With projects like this mobile laboratory, we are providing our entrepreneurs with the tools to grow sustainably and innovatively,” says Tom Vandeput, Deputy for Economy and Chairman of POM Limburg.
Technological Breakthrough
The Einstein Telescope could be the technological breakthrough of the future. Scientists aim to observe gravitational waves and look back to the very first moment of the universe. This endeavor comes with enormous technological challenges. To meet the strictest requirements, components must be produced and inspected under ultra-clean conditions.
Mobile Laboratory
This is where ABN Cleanroom Technology’s mobile cleanroom laboratory comes into play. “At ABN Cleanroom Technology, we notice a strong demand for rapidly deployable and modular cleanrooms. With our configurable solutions via the ADAPTUS product platform, we want to contribute to a strong high-tech ecosystem in the Limburg region,” says Jo Nelissen, CEO of ABN Cleanroom Technology.
Minimal Energy Waste
The mobile laboratory is equipped with advanced sensors that continuously collect data on usage and energy consumption. This data is used to automatically optimize energy management. This leads to minimal energy waste, which not only reduces operational costs but also significantly decreases the ecological footprint.
Additionally, the modular design ensures that the lab can be easily adapted to meet the needs of various sectors, from pharmaceuticals to high-tech manufacturing. “By modularity, we don’t just mean the overall project; it is a way of thinking at Poels Labs, where we also apply modularity at a sub-level, such as in wall design. This way, we configure the right solution for the right client without compromising on speed and quality,” says Gauthier Pauly, Managing Director of Poels Labs.
Investing in the Future
The ET Innovation Fund, launched by POM Limburg and supported by the province, encourages the development of technologies that align with the challenges of the Einstein Telescope. Four projects can receive up to 50% reimbursement of their project costs, with a maximum of €50,000.
Tom Vandeput: “Through projects like this mobile laboratory, SMEs have the opportunity to position themselves in high-value sectors such as photonics, semiconductors, and pharmaceuticals. This not only strengthens the position of individual companies but also our entire regional economy.”
