The construction industry faces the challenge of drastically reducing its significant waste production and carbon footprint. In addition, the profitability of construction companies is under increasing pressure, with profit margins often declining or even disappearing entirely. The transition to a more digital and circular construction industry is a pressing issue.
Boost Bouw Innovators
Successfully innovating as a company in the construction industry means balancing the pressure to move quickly with the requirement to embrace emerging trends such as AI, data, BIM and sustainability. Embuild Limburg and POM Limburg are offering a customised innovation program to twenty companies in the construction chain through “Boost Bouw Innovators”. During the process, decision-makers receive intensive coaching by innovation experts, and substantive support from knowledge and innovation centre Buildwise and Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship (VLAIO).
The project, which consists of two phases, must lead to at least one successful innovation per company that strengthens their competitive position. Joost Van Aelst, Strategic Expert on Sustainability at POM Limburg: “The goal is to launch a large number of new innovations by June 2025 and further reinforce the position of Limburg’s construction sector as an innovative player.”
Asking why
“Highly innovative companies are simultaneously working to strengthen their core offering, broaden their footprint and prepare for the future,” said innovation consultant Peter Bertels during the first session of the “Boost Bouw Innovators” project. The session focused on the “4 x I” model of innovation, providing business leaders with the basic principles and tools to shape their own innovation journey. “Always ask ‘Why?’ and enjoy the process of plumbing the deeper problem,” Peter Bertels emphasised.
This initiative is part of Boost Bouw Limburg, a project from POM Limburg and Embuild Limburg with support from the province of Limburg, and is further supported by VLAIO and Buildwise.
