Construction Think Tank Examines the Impact of AI
Embuild Limburg and POM Limburg took the members of the construction think tank to Zaventem for a company visit to Buildwise, the research and innovation center for the construction sector. The goal: to gain insight into the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on construction, the latest developments, and the strategies Buildwise is implementing in response. During the visit, members received an exclusive preview of an ongoing study that maps out AI’s impact on the sector over the next five years.
To shape the future of construction, POM Limburg, in collaboration with Embuild Limburg, brings together construction companies and other industry players through a think tank. Since 2022, Kim Strauven, CEO of Isola, has chaired the initiative. The construction sector faces numerous challenges, and these are precisely the focus of the think tank sessions, where experts and entrepreneurs collaborate on solutions and future-oriented strategies.
Buildwise
The construction think tank of Embuild Limburg and POM Limburg traveled to Zaventem for a visit to Buildwise, the research and innovation center for the construction sector. Buildwise supports companies through technological innovation, digitalization, and sustainable construction solutions. Its vision committee typically looks ten years ahead, but given the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), a new study focuses specifically on the next five years. Think tank members received an exclusive preview and explored the impact of this technological revolution on the industry.
AI in the Construction Sector
The company visit provided valuable insights for the think tank members. AI is accelerating the digital transition and reducing administrative burdens, meaning that by 2028, approximately 15% of daily operational decisions in the construction sector will be made by AI. A key challenge is ensuring high-quality and reliable data while addressing data sharing and privacy concerns. At the same time, AI presents opportunities to mitigate labor shortages and redefine roles within the industry. However, human expertise remains indispensable, as summed up at the end of the think tank session: “Never trust AI, human verification needed.”
This session of the construction think tank was organized as part of the Boost Bouw Limburg project by Embuild Limburg and POM Limburg, with support from the Province of Limburg.
