Diplomats from 30 countries discover Limburg’s strengths at Corda Campus
POM Limburg highlights the Einstein Telescope and international investment opportunities
Hasselt – Diplomatic representatives from 30 countries are visiting Corda Campus today. They are discovering Limburg’s economic and scientific strengths, with the Einstein Telescope taking centre stage. The visit is organised by the Diplomatic Circle of the Sablon, an initiative of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that brings together international diplomats in Belgium. Through these contacts, POM Limburg aims to open new doors for foreign investment and collaboration.
Governor Jos Lantmeeters welcomes the delegation to Corda Campus, where the Einstein Telescope takes centre stage. Hans Plets, CEO of Einstein Telescope Vlaanderen, and Michel Stassart, the Walloon representative for the project, jointly present the plans and provide an update on its progress. The diplomats then visit the interactive ECHO exhibition, which highlights the technological and economic opportunities the Einstein Telescope offers businesses.
Governor Jos Lantmeeters: ‘The Einstein Telescope is a unique opportunity to put our region on the international map. The project brings together scientists, businesses and governments from different countries. With this visit, we demonstrate that Limburg and the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion have everything it takes to play an important role in this international scientific project.’
Putting Limburg on the international map
In addition to the Einstein Telescope, the programme also includes Corda Campus. CEO Raf Degens gives the diplomats a guided tour and explains Limburg’s strengths in investment and innovation. For POM Limburg, the visit is an opportunity to strengthen Limburg’s international profile as an attractive region in which to invest, do business and innovate.
Tom Vandeput, Deputy for Economic Affairs and Chairman of POM Limburg: ‘Limburg has a great deal to offer international businesses and investors. We are centrally located in Europe, have strong knowledge institutions and are actively developing innovative campuses. We also want to raise awareness of these strengths beyond our borders. Diplomats can play an important role in this. Through their networks, they can bring Limburg to the attention of businesses and investors in their home countries and help create new economic opportunities.’
The visit concludes with a networking lunch with representatives from POM Limburg and Corda Campus. The Welcome Management team will subsequently follow up on these contacts and explore the opportunities they offer for investment and international collaboration.
