Limburg DC launches assignment on orientation and signage on the campus in Diepenbeek
From fragmentation to cohesion
Anyone visiting the Limburg DC campus today is quickly confronted with the proliferation of signage and the confusing naming of different buildings. This makes it difficult for visitors to find their destination. Limburg DC is therefore starting the search for a partner to set up a ‘wayfinding’ system: an intuitive navigation system that guides visitors smoothly through the campus.
In 2020, POM Limburg, together with various partners, outlined the master plan for the campus in Diepenbeek, which was given the name Limburg DC. The campus is becoming a green and vibrant knowledge hub where education, research, entrepreneurship and recreation come together. What once started as a collection of institutions next to one another is today growing into one connected campus city.
Finding one’s way on campus
The many signage boards and the confusing naming of different buildings using letters, numbers, etc. make it very difficult for visitors to find their way on the Limburg DC campus. Through a ‘wayfinding’ system, Limburg DC wants to ensure that people can easily orient themselves on the campus and reach their destination without difficulty.
A high-performing ‘wayfinding’ system allows visitors to know at all times exactly where they are on the campus, how to reach their destination and what the best route is. Recognising their destination and easily finding their way back are also part of the plan. With the new system, Limburg DC aims to ensure that visitors can navigate the campus in an informed and safe manner.
Roll-out of ‘wayfinding’
Limburg DC is launching an assignment for the further development of a ‘wayfinding’ system, building on a previously developed strategy to logically structure and standardise the campus.
Specifically, the assignment includes the following elements:
-
The design of the ‘wayfinding’ system.
-
The production, delivery and installation of the physical signage elements on site.
-
The maintenance of the installed physical signage elements.
