Logistics campus on former Ford site to prepare the sector for the future

18.12.2025

In the coming years, the Logistics Campus Limburg will be developed on the former Ford site in Genk. The new campus, scheduled for completion in 2028, is intended to become a meeting place for innovation and cooperation within the logistics sector. In this way, Limburg aims to maintain its strong logistics position and prepare for what lies ahead.

Meeting place for the sector
The Logistics Campus Limburg is conceived as an anchor point for innovation and inspiration. Governments, companies, knowledge institutions and other stakeholders from the sector will be able to work together on the challenges of today and tomorrow. The aim is to develop Limburg into a frontrunner in sustainable logistics chains and into a logistics hub with international connections. The focus is on creating greater added value, among other things through digital applications at all stages of the logistics chain.

Research centre for sustainable logistics
An important pillar of the campus is the establishment of a research centre by UHasselt for sustainable logistics. This centre focuses on concrete challenges in the sector, such as productivity, efficiency and the ergonomics of logistics jobs. The Logistics Campus thus also becomes a place where knowledge is shared, with attention to improving processes, workplace wellbeing and digital innovation. By linking research to practical examples, the campus aims to help accelerate the transition in the logistics sector.

Focus on sustainable and multimodal logistics
In addition to research and knowledge sharing, the Logistics Campus Limburg also focuses on more sustainable transport of goods. The campus aims to stimulate cooperation around combining different modes of transport and other environmentally friendly solutions. At the same time, regional and cross-border cooperation will be strengthened, with the goal of working towards a more efficient and more climate-conscious logistics sector.
