New initiative STIPP promotes cross-border innovation in the Meuse-Rhine region
A new Interreg initiative, STIPP (SME Transition Innovation Partner Projects), aims to strengthen collaboration between companies in the Dutch-German-Belgian Meuse-Rhine region. STIPP focuses on cross-border innovation, offering both financial and practical support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
With a total budget of €14 million, including €10 million available in subsidies, STIPP is positioned as a key driver of economic growth and technological progress in the region.
Support for businesses
STIPP is part of the Interreg Meuse-Rhine program, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Companies in the region can apply for subsidies ranging from €150,000 to €600,000, depending on the number of regions and countries involved in the project. The initiative focuses on three strategic themes: industrial transformation, the green transition, and healthier citizens. The program’s implementation is managed by POM Limburg (economic development agency for the province of Limburg), the Flemish Agency for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (VLAIO), and regional development organizations Wallonie Entreprendre (Wallonia), LIOF (Netherlands), AGIT (Germany), and NMWP (Germany).
Synergy and cross-border collaboration
The Meuse-Rhine region is known for its strong innovation infrastructure, including renowned universities and a diverse industrial base. However, there are still untapped opportunities, particularly in cross-border collaboration. STIPP seeks to change this by connecting companies and supporting them in jointly developing innovative solutions. According to the program’s organizers, this approach is crucial for maintaining the region’s competitiveness in the global market. “By working across borders, we can accelerate innovation and open up new markets,” said a program spokesperson.
First call for funding applications
The first call for subsidy applications is now open. SMEs interested in cross-border collaboration are encouraged to submit project proposals. They can receive support in finding partners and establishing consortia. The program specifically targets companies committed to contributing to sustainable economic development in the region. Projects aligned with the strategic themes have a higher chance of receiving funding.
