Logistics Campus Limburg

The flagship of the logistics sector

The Logistics Campus Limburg (LCL) is part of Logistics Valley Flanders, the large-scale redevelopment of the former Ford site spanning no less than 134 hectares. The site is divided into three zones: A, B, and C. While zones B and C are already under active development with Genk Green Logistics, Port of Limburg, and H.Essers Dry Port, zone A will become the central meeting place for the logistics sector. In 2022, POM Limburg (80%) and the city of Genk (20%) jointly acquired 4.5 hectares of this central zone.

The entire 4.5 hectares are designated for the development of manufacturing and logistics-supporting activities and the construction of a gateway building.

Strategic Location

The Logistics Campus Limburg is the central hub for companies, knowledge institutions, and organizations in the logistics sector. Strategically located between the seaports and the European hinterland, the campus sits along the Albert Canal, the railway, and near the E313 and E314 motorways. This development strengthens Limburg’s position as a leading logistics hub in Europe and increases the region’s attractiveness.

The Iconic Gateway Building

The redevelopment of the former Ford site reaches a symbolic high point with the construction of an iconic gatehouse that will serve as a landmark for Logistics Valley Flanders. The building is being developed by Group Machiels and Essers Family Office on the former grounds of POM Limburg and the city of Genk.

Binst Architects’ design for the iconic gatehouse refers in its form both to the coal of the industrial past and to a black diamond, symbolising future value creation.

The building will receive a BREEAM Excellent score, an internationally recognised sustainability label. This means that it meets strict standards for energy consumption, choice of materials, water management and mobility.

There will be space for offices, training centres, logistics services and also catering or satellite offices of companies. It will be a location where companies, governments and knowledge institutions can work together on logistics, innovation and training.

The first sod will be turned in 2026.

Innovation and Collaboration

POM Limburg plays a crucial role in the development of the Logistics Campus Limburg. By focusing on digitalization, innovation, sustainability, collaboration, and knowledge sharing, POM Limburg will strengthen the logistics and warehousing ecosystem from within the campus and thus contribute to the innovation and growth of the logistics sector in Limburg. This will be achieved through functions such as:

  • Digital delivery hub
  • Attracting forward-thinking manufacturing and logistics-supporting companies
  • Knowledge sharing and networking
  • Local satellites
  • Training facilities
